Golden Beach

Golden Beach is a far older community than the rest of the state, with the typical resident aged 55 and 35.8% of people aged 65 or over. Children under 15 make up just 11.8% of the population, which is well below the national figure.

Health needs are high here, with 39.4% of people living with a long-term health condition, far above the national figure. This is consistent with the older population, as 8.3% of residents need help with daily activities.

The area has a notably high number of former Defence Force members at 6.1%, well above the national figure. Unpaid care for children is much lower than in most areas, which aligns with the small number of children living here.

First Nations people make up a small part of the community. Those who identify as First Nations have an unemployment rate of 4.3%, which is much lower than both the state and national figures.

The area is marked by a high number of people living alone (34.7%) and couples without children. Households are generally small, with only 2.1 people per home.

Home ownership is strong, with 46.4% of homes owned outright, far above the national figure. While many residents own their homes, the typical weekly rent of $400 is much higher than in most similar areas.

The area is very well served by public transport stops, and 100% of homes are within a 10-minute walk of one. Despite this, 8.9% of homes have no motor vehicle, which is much higher than most areas.

Golden Beach has seen significant movement, with 44.4% of people moving in the last five years. This is well above the national average.

Working life is less common here, as only 45.7% of adults are working or looking for work, far below the national figure. Those employed are most often found in health care and social assistance.

The neighborhood is very walkable, with 93.9% of homes within a 15-minute walk of groceries. Residents also have excellent access to parks, with every home located within 15 minutes of one.
