Incomes are among the lowest for this level, with the typical personal weekly income sitting at $575. Only 9% of households earn $3,000 or more per week, far below the national figure.

Health challenges are common here, as 37% of people live with a long-term condition. This includes high rates of arthritis and mental health conditions, and 8.5% of residents need help with daily activities.

Volunteering is very common, with 22.7% of people pitching in—well above the national figure. This high level of community support is seen alongside a high rate of people providing unpaid care.

First Nations people make up 4.3% of the population, which is a little above the state average. This community is noticeably younger than the general population, with a typical age of 20.

Living arrangements are varied, as 34.7% of people live alone, well above the national average. At the same time, one-parent families are more common here than in most similar areas.

Detached houses are the standard, making up 89.5% of homes. Stability is high, with 41.3% of homes owned outright and typical weekly rents being far below the national figure.

The area is heavily dependent on cars, with only 0.5% of people commuting by public transport. Very few people work from home, at just 8.0%.

The population is very stable, as only 27.9% of residents have moved in the last five years. Recent arrivals from overseas are also rare, at just 8.3%.

Working life is less common here than elsewhere, with only 52% of adults working or looking for work. Unemployment is 6.3%, which is a little above the national average.

The area is seeing very little growth, with a population decline of 0.2% since 2021. This puts it among the lowest for growth compared to the rest of South Australia.

The region is quite dry, with an average annual rainfall of 350mm. Temperatures are generally lower than the state average, particularly the minimums which are much lower than most areas.
