The population grew by 4.9% since 2011 to reach 73,384 people. While 18.6% of residents are children, the area is noticeably older than the state and national average, with 18.1% of people aged 65 and over.

Most residents were born in Australia, though 22.1% were born overseas, which is about the same as the Queensland figure. English and Australian are the most common ancestries, followed by Irish and Scottish.

English is the main language for 87.3% of the community. Only 9.2% of people use another language at home, which is far below the national figure of 22.3%.

About half of the population identifies as Christian, while 41.4% report no religion. This last group has grown significantly, rising 20 percentage points since 2011.

Education levels have risen, with 19.9% of adults now holding a bachelor degree or higher. Year 12 completion is higher than in most similar areas, at 58.3%.

Incomes are higher than in most areas, with a typical family earning $2,214 a week. This is a little above the national figure of $2,120.

Long-term health conditions are more common here than in most areas, affecting 31.2% of residents. Mental health conditions are reported by 10.1% of the population.

Unpaid care is a significant part of local life, with 29.9% of people caring for children—a rate well above the national figure. However, volunteering has fallen since 2011.

First Nations residents are younger than average, with a typical age of 22. This group also shows strong outcomes, with a Year 12 completion rate far above the national figure.

Homes here are larger than in most areas, with 2.7 people per household. This is consistent with the high number of couples with children, who make up 58.5% of families.

The area is dominated by separate houses, with 87.7% of homes having three or more bedrooms. Renting is much less common here than in the rest of the state, at only 21.7%.

Most people rely on cars, and only 3.7% of homes have no motor vehicle. While public transport use is low at 2.5%, there is a high density of bus stops across the area.

The community is relatively stable, as the 36.4% of people who moved in the last five years is well below the national figure. Recent overseas arrivals have also fallen sharply since 2011.

Employment rates are high, with 65.2% of adults working or looking for work, which is well above the national average. The unemployment rate is low at 4.3%.

The population has continued to grow since 2021, although the 3.4% increase is well below the Queensland average.

The area receives 1,115mm of annual rainfall, which is far above the state average. Average minimum temperatures are also much higher than in most other areas.

Capalaba is very walkable, with a score of 6.4. Almost all homes are within a 15-minute walk of a park, and 94.5% are within 10 minutes of public transport.
