The community is slightly younger than the national figure, with a typical resident aged 37. It is a large area of over 93,000 people, though the proportion of children under 15 has fallen by 4.9 points since 2011.

Overseas birth is very common here, with 55.5% of people born abroad, a figure far above the national average. Chinese, English and Australian are the most common ancestries, while China and Nepal are the most frequent countries of birth.

Language diversity is high, as 64.7% of people use a language other than English at home, which is far above the national figure. Mandarin and Cantonese are the most common non-English languages, and 13.2% of residents speak little or no English.

Religious affiliation is more common here than in most areas, with 29.4% of people reporting no religion, which is well below the national figure of 38.9%. Christianity is the most common religion at 40.4%.

Education levels are high, with 34.3% of adults holding a bachelor degree or higher and 71.6% completing Year 12, both of which are well above the national average.

Typical household incomes are around the national figure at $1,851 a week. However, the proportion of people earning $2,000 or more weekly is 9.6%, which is a little below the national level.

Residents report fewer long-term health conditions than most areas, with only 19.0% affected, which is well below the national figure. Mental health conditions are also reported at a much lower rate of 4.4%.

Volunteer rates are among the lowest at this level at 7.8%, a figure that has fallen 17 points since 2011. Similarly, the proportion of people providing unpaid care is much lower than in most other areas.

Households tend to be larger than usual, with 2.8 people per home. This is consistent with a high percentage of couples with children, who make up 59.8% of families.

The housing mix has shifted toward higher density, with 45.9% of homes being flats or apartments and renting much more common than average at 39.0%. Three-bedroom homes are far less common than in the rest of the state.

Many residents rely on public transport and 15.9% of homes have no motor vehicle, which is well above the national figure. Working from home is also very common, at 31.8%.

The area is quite mobile, with 41.3% of people moving house in the last five years. Recent overseas arrivals are much more common here than in most areas, at 19.8%.

The unemployment rate is 6.2%, which is a little above the national figure. A high number of residents work in health care and social assistance, and 52.5% are employed full-time.

Walkability is exceptional, with a score of 8.7 and 100% of homes within a 15-minute walk of a park or grocery store. Nearly every home is also within a 10-minute walk of public transport.
