The rate of long-term health conditions (26.9%) is about the same as the national figure. Mental health conditions are reported by 9.1% of residents, which is higher than most similar areas.

Unpaid childcare is very common here, with 38.0% of people caring for children, a figure far above the national average. Conversely, volunteering is much lower than in most other areas at 12.9%.

First Nations residents in Lakelands are far younger than the state average, with a typical age of 16. They also have a much higher typical personal income ($966) and a higher Year 12 completion rate (44.3%) than the state average.

Homes here are larger than usual, with 2.8 people per home and 60.3% of households being couples with children. There are also much more one-parent families (17.4%) than in most areas.

The area is dominated by separate houses (99.2%), with 87.8% of homes having three or more bedrooms. Mortgage holders are common (55.0%), while those who own their home outright (20.1%) are far below the national figure.

While public transport stops are among the most numerous at this level, only 5.2% of people work from home, which is far below the national figure. Most residents rely on cars, with 42.3% of homes having two vehicles.

Lakelands is a high-churn area, with 46.8% of the population moving in the last five years, well above the national average. Recent overseas arrivals make up 7.0% of the community.

More adults are working or looking for work (65.6%) than in most similar areas. Common industries for residents include health care, mining, and retail trade.

Most homes are within a short walk of a park (94.0%) or public transport (82.7%), but very few have easy walking access to health services or groceries.
