Educational attainment is lower than in most areas, with only 33.9% of residents having completed Year 12, far below the national figure of 58.8%. Only 9.3% of adults hold a bachelor degree or higher.

Incomes are much lower than typical for the state and nation. The typical weekly household income is $1,149, which is well below the national figure of $1,746.

Health needs are high here, with 41.0% of people living with a long-term health condition, far above the national 27.7%. This is consistent with the older population, as 8.4% of residents need help with daily activities.

The area has a higher rate of unpaid carers (14.9%) and a higher proportion of Defence Force veterans (4.9%) than most areas. However, the volunteer rate of 9.9% is well below the national figure of 14.1%.

About 3.3% of the population identifies as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. This group is far older than the national average, with a typical age of 44, and a higher rate of traditional language use (15.6%).

Households are smaller than usual, with only 2.1 people per home. Nearly 30% of people live alone, and couples without children make up the largest group at 47.4%.

The area is dominated by separate houses (93.1%), and many residents have high security in their housing, with 45.9% owning their home outright. This is far above the national figure of 31.0%.

While most people drive to work, the area has a high number of public transport stops per person. Despite this, very few people (1.1%) use public transport to commute.
