The community is much older than the national figure, with a typical age of 51 and very few children under 15. While 3.7% of residents are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, about the same as the state average, those aged 65 and over make up a far higher share of the population than usual.

Health needs are significant here; 39% of people have a long-term health condition, far above the national figure. This is reflected in the high number of people who need help with daily activities, which is among the highest for similar areas.

Providing unpaid care is much more common here than in other areas. Interestingly, 6.7% of residents served in the Defence Force, which is well above the national average.

There are 12 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the area. This group is noticeably younger than the national average, with a typical age of 21.

One-parent families are much more common here than in most areas, making up 22.2% of households. Typical homes are smaller than average, with 2.2 people per dwelling.

Almost every home is a separate house, and renting is very rare at just 9.3%. While home loan payments are well below the national figure, homes are also smaller, with far fewer having three or more bedrooms.

The area is entirely car-dependent, with no one using public transport to commute. Most homes have at least one motor vehicle, and very few people work from home.

Residents are more settled than those in the state or nation, with far fewer people having moved in the last five years. There were no recent arrivals from overseas.

Working or looking for work is much less common here than elsewhere, and the unemployment rate of 8.2% is well above the national figure. Many of those employed work in health care or agriculture.
