The area has a very high number of Defence Force veterans, with 6.7% of people having served, well above the national figure of 2.8%. Around 13.6% of residents are volunteers.

The First Nations community is strong, with 15.1% of these residents speaking a traditional language. While Year 12 completion is high at 50.3%, the unemployment rate is much higher than most areas at 20.4%.
