Lue

The community is older than most, with a typical resident aged 43 and over a fifth of the population aged 65 or over. First Nations people make up 6.5% of the population, which is well above the state and national figures.

Lue is overwhelmingly Australian-born, with 81% born here and only 5.1% born overseas—far below the national average. Most residents claim English or Australian ancestry.

English is the only language used at home, with no residents reporting that they speak little or no English. This is far below the state and national figures for language diversity.

Nearly 40% of the community reports having no religion, which is about the same as the national figure. Christianity remains the most common affiliation at 48.6%.

Educational qualifications are lower than in most areas, with only 11% of adults holding a bachelor degree or higher. Many residents have a Certificate III or IV, and far fewer completed Year 12 compared to the state average.

While typical family incomes are about the same as the national figure, only 11% of households earn $3,000 or more a week, which is far below the state and national levels.

A little more than 29% of residents have a long-term health condition, which is slightly above the national figure. However, the rate of people needing help with daily activities is lower than in most areas.

Volunteering is common here, with 18.5% of people volunteering—well above the national rate. There is also a higher number of former Defence Force members compared to most areas.

The First Nations community in Lue is doing well financially, with typical household and personal incomes well above the state and national figures.

Single-person households are more common than usual, making up 30.1% of homes. Conversely, one-parent families are very rare here, at just 2.5%.

Lue is unique in that 100% of homes are separate houses. Many residents own their homes outright (37%), and those with mortgages pay significantly less per month than the state average.

The area is entirely dependent on cars for commuting, as 71.4% of workers drive and no one uses public transport to get to work. Most homes have two or more vehicles.

The community has seen some movement, with 36.5% of residents having moved in the last five years, though this is lower than the state and national averages.

The local job market is strong, with an unemployment rate of 0.0%. Most people work in agriculture, construction, or retail, and roughly 60% of adults are working or looking for work.

Lue is highly car-dependent, with a walkability score far below the state average. Residents cannot walk to groceries or health services, and very few live within a short walk of a park.
