Housing is mostly made up of separate houses, and 45.2% are owned outright, which is far above the national average. Both weekly rents and mortgage payments are much lower than the state average.

The area is entirely dependent on cars, with no one commuting by public transport. However, a high 24.6% of the workforce works from home.

Movement into the area is lower than the state average, and the number of recent arrivals from overseas has fallen sharply since 2011.

Agriculture, forestry, and fishing are the primary industries, employing 35% of the workforce. While full-time employment is slightly above the national average, the unemployment rate is also higher at 6.0%.
