The population is far older than the national average, with 26.1% of people aged 65 and over. While the total population grew by 8.8% to 4,605 people since 2011, the proportion of children under 15 fell by 3.4 points in that time.

Long-term health conditions are more common here than in most areas, affecting 31.5% of residents. Arthritis is the most reported condition, affecting 11.1% of the population.

Volunteering fell by 6.4 points since 2011 to reach 13.7%. The proportion of people caring for children unpaid is also well below the national average at 21.8%.

Homes are smaller than usual, with 2.3 people per home. This is partly because 30.4% of people live alone, which is well above the national figure.

Housing is dominated by separate houses (93.2%), and far more people own their homes outright (42.7%) compared to the national average. Weekly rent is $280, which is well below the national figure.

Most people drive to work, and only 0.3% use public transport. This car-dependence is reflected in the fact that 65.7% of workers commute as a driver.

About 32.5% of residents moved in the last five years. Recent arrivals from overseas make up 13.9% of the population, which is a rise of 4.6 points since 2011.

Full-time employment is much higher than in most areas at 63.3%. Manufacturing (18.2%) and agriculture, forestry and fishing (14.0%) are the most common industries.

The area ranks lower than most for overall advantage, with a score of 3 out of 10. This is consistent with the lower levels of education and job skills found in the community.

The area is mostly car-dependent, with a walkability score of 3.5. Far fewer homes are within a 15-minute walk of a park or grocery store compared to the New South Wales average.
