Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people make up 6.2% of the population, which is much higher than most areas. The community is noticeably older than the national average, with the typical resident aged 41 and over 20% of people aged 65 or more.

Most residents were born in Australia (80.6%), and the proportion of people born overseas is far below the national figure at 14.3%. English, Irish, and Scottish ancestries are the most common after Australian.

Typical weekly household income is $1,532, a little below the national figure. While 17.2% of households earn $3,000 or more a week, this is well below the New South Wales average of 25.2%.

Health challenges are common here, with 34.6% of people living with a long-term health condition, which is well above the national average. Mental health and arthritis are the most reported conditions.

Volunteer rates are much lower than most areas at 10.2% and have fallen since 2011. Unpaid care for children and housework remains common, with figures around the national average.

Homes here are larger than usual, with 2.7 people per home. This is consistent with a high number of couples with children and a one-parent family rate (18.3%) that is well above the national average.

The area is dominated by separate houses, which make up 90.2% of homes. Most of these are large, with 82.6% having three or more bedrooms, far above the state average.

Driving is the primary way to get to work, and the commute to the city takes a long time, averaging 98 minutes. While public transport stops are numerous, only 1% of people use them to commute.

The community is quite mobile, with 39.7% of people moving in the last five years. However, the share of recent arrivals from overseas is well below the national figure.

Full-time employment is much lower than in most areas at 54.1%. The most common industries for local workers are health care, construction, and retail trade.

The area ranks lower than about 60% of similar places for overall advantage. Residents generally have lower job skills and education levels compared to the wider community.

While many homes are near public transport, the area is generally not walkable. Only 31.4% of residents can walk to groceries within 15 minutes, which is far below the state average.
