Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people make up 93.2% of the population, far above the state average. The community is very young, with a typical age of 26, and a high proportion of residents are in de facto relationships (32.7%).

Almost everyone here was born in Australia (91.1%), and the number of people born overseas is far below the national figure at just 0.9%.

About 28.9% of people use another language at home, which is well above the Australian figure, though this is a big drop from 2011. Despite this, no one reported speaking little or no English.

Over half of the community (54.5%) identify as Christian. Those with no religion make up 24.6% of the population, which is far below the state and national figures.

Education levels are much lower than in most areas, with only 27.3% of residents completing Year 12 and 6.4% holding a bachelor degree or higher. The most common highest school year completed is Year 10.

Incomes are far below the national figure, with a typical weekly household income of $1,083. No households earn $3,000 or more per week, and over half of all individuals earn under $650 weekly.

Reports of long-term health conditions (15.1%) and mental health conditions (2.2%) are far below the state and national averages. Very few people, just 1.2%, need help with daily activities.

Unpaid work is common here, with 45.9% of people caring for children and 21.1% providing other unpaid care, both far above the national average. However, formal volunteering is low at 4.6%.

Homes are larger than usual, with 3.3 people per household, which helps explain why one-parent families are so common (32.9%) compared to the state average.

Every home in the area is a separate house, but none are owned outright. Renting is very common (88.4%), with a typical weekly rent of just $100.

Cars are the main way to get around, though 21.3% of homes have no motor vehicle, which is far above the national figure. No one uses public transport to commute.

The population is relatively stable, with 28.2% of people moving in the last five years, which is far below the national rate of 40.7%.

Unemployment is very high at 24.7%, far above the national figure. Among those working, many are in education and training (35.7%) or public administration and safety (14.3%).

The area has a high number of walkable amenities per 1,000 residents, mostly parks (66.7%), as well as some schools and grocery stores.
