Brisbane and Mount Cotton are nearby Queensland areas with very different housing and lifestyles. Brisbane is a very walkable place where 88.8% of homes are within a 10-minute walk of public transport, while Mount Cotton is more car-reliant and consists entirely of separate houses. The two differ sharply in home types and demographics; Mount Cotton has far more large homes, with 98.5% having three or more bedrooms, and a higher share of people caring for children (42.1%). In contrast, Brisbane has a much higher proportion of renters (36.6%) and people living alone (23.9%).
Both areas share similar rates of people working from home and nearly identical proportions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents. Mount Cotton's lead in typical weekly household income, now $771 higher than in Brisbane, has also grown over the last decade.
