Brighton North East
North East and Brighton are two distinct Tasmanian areas with very different profiles. North East is a much older region, where the typical resident is 49 and 25.5% are aged 65 and over. Home ownership is also far higher there, with 44.7% of homes owned outright. In contrast, Brighton is notably younger, with a typical resident aged 35 and a much higher share of renters at 31.8%. Brighton is also far more connected, with significantly more public transport stops and departures, and more homes within a 15-minute walk of shops, schools, and parks.
Both areas sit close to the national figure for people who provide unpaid care. Outside of that shared trend, the gap in age between the two has widened since 2011, as has the difference in the share of renters and First Nations residents. While North East has more people born overseas and a higher share of adults with a bachelor degree, Brighton has a much larger proportion of children under 15.
