Farrer and Mawson are neighbouring areas in the Australian Capital Territory. They differ most in their housing and demographics; Farrer has far more separate houses (73.2% compared to 54.2% in Mawson) and a larger share of homes with three or more bedrooms. Farrer is also an older area, with a typical resident aged 43 and a higher proportion of people aged 65 and over. In contrast, Mawson has a far higher share of renters (35.7% versus 15.8% in Farrer) and a much larger number of people who use a language other than English at home (29.3% compared to 17.7% in Farrer).
Since 2011, the two areas have drifted further apart in several ways, as seen in the widening gaps for overseas arrivals, language diversity, and the age of residents. However, they remain very similar in other respects, including their share of children under 15 and a nearly identical percentage of full-time employment. Both areas also sit well above the national figure for adults with a bachelor degree or higher, though this lead is now slightly stronger in Mawson.
