Isaacs Mawson
Mawson and Isaacs are neighbouring areas in the Australian Capital Territory with very different housing and lifestyle patterns. Mawson is a walker's paradise, where 95.5% of homes are within a 15-minute walk of groceries and 91.4% are near health services. It is also more transient and diverse, with a higher share of renters (35.7%) and recent overseas arrivals (22.8%). In contrast, Isaacs is dominated by larger, detached houses, with 83.7% being separate dwellings and 94.2% having three or more bedrooms. Residents there are far older, with a typical age of 49 compared to 38 in Mawson, and a much higher share own their homes outright (51.4%).
Both areas share a similar level of education and job skills, and they are equally distant from the city. They also have an almost identical share of First Nations people and people who speak little or no English. While these core similarities remain, other gaps are widening; the age difference between the two has grown since 2011, and the fact that more people in Mawson have moved recently has also become more pronounced over time.
