Horsham Southern Grampians
Horsham and Southern Grampians are two regional Victorian areas with distinct profiles. Horsham is more urbanised, with far more public transport routes and a higher share of walkable amenities. It also has larger schools, with an average size of 398 compared to 153 in Southern Grampians. In contrast, Southern Grampians has a higher number of schools overall and is more focused on agriculture, forestry and fishing. Crime rates are also notably different, with robbery, sexual offences and property damage all far higher in Horsham.
Since 2011, the two areas have drifted further apart in several ways. The gap in typical age has widened, with residents now noticeably older in Southern Grampians, where the typical resident is 47. This is consistent with that area having a much higher share of people aged 65 and over. The difference in overseas arrivals has also grown, and Horsham now has a well higher share of people working or looking for work. Despite these trends, they remain very similar in other ways, such as having nearly identical shares of adults with a bachelor degree and people who speak little or no English.
