Blayney Mid-Western Regional
Mid-Western Regional and Blayney are two New South Wales areas with very different scales and social profiles. Mid-Western Regional is far larger, with more than three times the population of Blayney and a much larger business presence. It has a notably higher rate of crime, including theft and sexual offences, and a far larger Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population. In contrast, Blayney has a higher share of people working from home and a stronger standing in education and job skills.
Both areas sit near the national figure for the proportion of people who moved house in the last five years. They also share very similar typical weekly household incomes, around $1,500, and nearly identical proportions of children and retirees. While some gaps in employment and home-working have widened since 2011, their housing styles remain alike, with both areas having a much higher share of separate houses and three-bedroom homes than the national average.
