Stanley Village vs Toomelah

Stanley Village and Toomelah are two different rural settings in New South Wales. In Stanley Village, First Nations residents are far older, with a typical age of 37 compared to 27 in Toomelah. Toomelah has a far higher First Nations unemployment rate of 46.3%, which is 30 percentage points higher than the 16.1% in Stanley Village. Stanley Village is also more developed for pedestrians, with 53.3% of homes within a 15-minute walk of a park, while only 3.1% of homes in Toomelah have that access.

Both areas are car-dependent, and almost no homes in either place are within a 15-minute walk of groceries. A gap in education is narrowing, as Year 12 completion among First Nations people is well higher in Stanley Village at 17.1%, though both areas sit far below the national figure. While Stanley Village has slightly more First Nations people and a slightly higher typical personal income, the usual household income for First Nations families is nearly identical in both places, at around $1,080.
