Brand Curtin
Brand and Curtin are two large residential areas in Western Australia with very different profiles. Curtin is much more affluent, with 47.9% of adults holding a bachelor degree or higher compared to just 13.6% in Brand. This is reflected in the typical weekly household income, which is $2,308 in Curtin and $1,722 in Brand. Their housing styles also contrast sharply; Brand is dominated by separate houses (91.0%) and large family homes, while Curtin has far more apartments and townhouses and is very walkable, compared to Brand which is only somewhat walkable.
Both areas share a similar number of schools and public transport stops, and both have nearly identical shares of people who speak little or no English. However, the gap in education and wealth has grown over time. Since 2011, the difference in Year 12 completion has flipped, and the gap in high weekly earnings has widened. While Brand has a younger population with more children, Curtin has seen its share of people aged 65 and over increase relative to Brand.
