Queensland Northern Territory
Queensland and Northern Territory are both large regions with very different demographic profiles. The Northern Territory has a far higher proportion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people (26.3% compared to 4.6% in Queensland), and a much higher share of people speak a First Nations language (60.1% versus 11.6%). There are also significant differences in housing and education; Queensland has a far higher share of homes owned outright (29.1% versus 15.8%) and more First Nations residents completed Year 12 (43.6% compared to 23.2%).
These two areas are remarkably similar in several other ways, such as having nearly identical shares of adults with a bachelor degree or higher (around 21%) and the same rate of volunteering. Both are also considered somewhat walkable. While some gaps are closing, such as the difference in the share of households that rent, others are widening, including the gap in people who work from home, which is now 9.9% higher in Queensland.
