Mid North Outback - North and East
Outback - North and East and Mid North are two distinct South Australian regions with very different populations. Outback - North and East is much younger, with a typical resident aged 37, and has a far higher Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population at 22.9%. It also has more recent overseas arrivals (21.8%) and a higher share of renters at 41.3%. Mid North is far older, with a typical age of 47 and a much higher proportion of seniors (25.0%). Residents there are more likely to own their homes outright (41.3%) and a far higher share of the population is English-only speaking.
Both areas are almost identical in their unemployment rates, which sit around 6% to 7%. While they share similar levels of university qualifications, the gaps between them are often widening. The difference in the typical age of residents and the share of First Nations people have both increased since 2011. This trend is also seen in language diversity, with the gap in people using another language at home growing over time.
