Weddell Woodroffe
Weddell and Woodroffe are two very different environments in the Northern Territory. Woodroffe is a very walkable area where 100% of homes are within a 15-minute walk of a park, school, and groceries. In contrast, Weddell is car-dependent and much more remote, with a typical drive time to the city of 54 minutes compared to 18 minutes in Woodroffe. Housing also differs; Weddell has far more separate houses (95.1%) and more people who own their homes outright (28.7%), while Woodroffe has a much higher share of renters (41.3%).
These differences in housing have become more pronounced as the gap in renters has widened since 2011. However, the two areas share very similar typical weekly household incomes, sitting just under $2,000. They also have almost identical shares of people who speak little or no English and similar rates of volunteering. Both areas have a high proportion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents compared to the national figure, though this share is well higher in Woodroffe at 18.4%.
