Docklands Williamstown
Williamstown and Docklands are both well-off areas in Greater Melbourne, but they have very different characters. Williamstown is an older community where the typical resident is 45 and many people own their homes outright (38.6%). It is dominated by separate houses, with 66.8% of homes having three or more bedrooms. In contrast, Docklands is much younger, with a typical age of 32. It is almost entirely made up of flats or apartments (97.7%), and renting is far more common here at 67%. Docklands is also much more diverse, with 61.6% of people born overseas and 53.3% using a language other than English at home.
These two neighbours have seen the gap in their age structures widen since 2011, with Williamstown becoming relatively older as Docklands stays young. Despite this, they share a similar level of overall advantage, and almost every home in both areas is within a 10-minute walk of public transport. Both places also sit well above the national figure for adults with a bachelor degree or higher, though this is more pronounced in Docklands where 56.2% of adults hold such a qualification.
