Augusta Margaret River Bunbury
Bunbury and Augusta Margaret River are two different types of Western Australian hubs. Bunbury is a very walkable urban centre where 68.9% of homes are within a 15-minute walk of a '15-minute-city' layout and renters make up 34.1% of households. In contrast, Augusta Margaret River is mostly car-dependent and more rural, with 92.5% of homes being separate houses and a far higher share of people who have finished Year 12 (57.5% compared to 42.6% in Bunbury). This gap in education is also seen among First Nations residents, who are far more likely to have finished Year 12 in Augusta Margaret River.
Since 2011, the differences between these two areas have generally grown. The gap in rent shares and the number of people with no religion have both widened, while the difference in school completion has also increased. Despite these diverging trends, they share a similar typical weekly family income of around $1,800 and have nearly identical proportions of people who speak little or no English.
