Hume Moreland
Hume and Moreland are two large areas of Greater Melbourne with very different landscapes. Hume is more spread out, with 87.8% of homes being separate houses and 89.3% having three or more bedrooms. In contrast, Moreland is more compact, where 41.1% of adults hold a bachelor degree or higher and 36.1% of people work from home. Cultural profiles also differ, as 48.8% of people in Hume use another language at home, which is far higher than the 34.5% in Moreland. Moreland also has a much higher share of people with no religion at 41.2%, compared to 19.3% in Hume.
Everyday life shares several similarities in both places, including a similar proportion of people who provide unpaid care and those who have served in the Defence Force. However, the gap in walkability has widened; Moreland is a walker's paradise, while Hume is only somewhat walkable. The difference in housing and work habits has also grown since 2011, with Moreland seeing a far higher increase in people working from home and a larger share of residents living alone.
