Cobar Griffith
Cobar and Griffith are two New South Wales regions with very different social profiles. Griffith is far more multicultural, with 22.4% of people born overseas and 23.2% using a language other than English at home, compared to 7.4% and 4.5% in Cobar. Cobar has a much higher proportion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people (14.3% compared to 5.3% in Griffith) and sees far more people earning $2,000 or more a week (14.1% versus 7.1%). Cobar also records much higher rates of crime, including sexual offences and motor vehicle theft.
Since 2011, the gap in overseas births and language use has widened, while the difference in de facto relationships has narrowed. Despite these shifts, the two areas remain very similar in other ways. They share the same typical resident age of 37 and have nearly identical typical weekly household incomes of around $1,740. Both regions also have similar rates of unemployment, renting, and long-term health conditions.
