Stirling vs Wanneroo - North-East

Stirling and Wanneroo - North-East are two distinct Western Australian areas with very different layouts. Stirling is very walkable, with 85.5% of homes within a 15-minute walk of a "15-minute-city" zone and 89.8% near a school. In contrast, Wanneroo - North-East is only somewhat walkable, and far fewer homes are within a 15-minute walk of groceries (54.7%) or health services (29.9%). This difference is clear in the street design, as Stirling has far more intersections per square kilometre than Wanneroo - North-East.

These two areas have seen their gap in walkability widen since 2011. While they share a similar terrain slope, they differ in their First Nations populations. In Stirling, First Nations residents are noticeably older, with a typical age of 27, compared to 21 in Wanneroo - North-East. Stirling also has a well higher share of First Nations people who finished Year 12 at 47.2%, while unemployment for this group is well higher in Wanneroo - North-East at 17.8%.
