Nearly one in four people in Hobart volunteer their time, which is a well above average rate for the city. This high level of community spirit is a standout feature, with 23.6% of residents giving their time to others. It is a striking contrast to the local rates of unpaid care and housework, which are some of the lowest seen in similar areas.

Volunteering is very common here, with 23.6% of people helping out. This is well above the Tasmanian figure of 18.0% and the national rate of 14.1%, and it has risen slightly since 2011.

Unpaid care is far less common than in most areas. Only 15.3% of people care for children unpaid and 13.5% spend 15 or more hours on housework weekly, both of which are well below the national and state figures.
