More than one in five people in Tasmania spend 15 or more hours a week on unpaid housework. This reflects a strong trend of community and family contribution, though the number of people doing this work has dropped since 2011.

Volunteering for organisations and groups.
About 18% of Tasmanians volunteer, which is much higher than most similar areas and well above the national figure of 14.1%. This is a slight drop from 2011, when 19.5% of people volunteered.
Unpaid care & work
Caring for others and unpaid domestic work.
The rate of people providing unpaid care is much higher than most areas at 12.9%, while 21.9% do significant unpaid housework. In contrast, the 25.6% who care for children unpaid is lower than most other areas.
