Springton vs Swan Reach

Urban Centre comparison ≈ 48 km apart · Springton profile · Swan Reach profile

Springton Swan Reach

Swan Reach and Springton are two small South Australian areas with very different populations. Swan Reach is far older, with a typical resident aged 61 and 42% of people aged 65 or over. Springton is much younger, where 21.1% of residents are children under 15, compared to just 5.8% in Swan Reach. This age gap helps explain why Springton has far more people caring for children unpaid (26.2% versus 6.6%) and a much higher share of large homes with three or more bedrooms. Swan Reach is more likely to be owned outright (59%) and has a higher proportion of people living alone at 53.3%.

Both areas share a similar rental market, with about 16% of homes being rented. They are also alike in that almost no one uses public transport to get to work and neither area has any recent arrivals from overseas. While they share these traits, their walkability differs greatly; Springton is very walkable, whereas Swan Reach is mostly car-dependent. This gap in accessibility, along with the differences in age and housing, has generally widened since 2011.
