Goyder Karama
Goyder and Karama are two very different types of Northern Territory environments. Karama is a very walkable urban area where 20.5% of people are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and 29.6% were born overseas. In contrast, Goyder is a car-dependent area where 49.6% of people have no religion and 31.4% of households earn $3,000 or more a week. Goyder is also more likely to be home to separate houses, which are found in 93.6% of dwellings compared to 73.4% in Karama.
The gap in the number of people born overseas has widened since 2011, reflecting the growing difference in cultural diversity between these two places. Despite this, they share several similarities, including an almost identical number of people per home and nearly the same rate of residents with mental health conditions. While Karama is much more connected to public transport and parks, both areas have a similar number of public transport stops overall.
