North Shore Pittwater
North Shore and Pittwater are both populous areas in New South Wales, but they offer very different lifestyles. North Shore is a high-density hub where 72% of homes are flats or apartments, while Pittwater is more spacious, with 65.3% of homes being separate houses. This difference is reflected in the people who live there; North Shore has a far higher share of residents born overseas (39.5%) and those who speak another language at home (22.3%). North Shore also has a much higher proportion of adults with a bachelor degree or higher (58.6%) and people earning $2,000 or more a week (36.3%).
Many of these gaps have widened since 2011, particularly the divide in housing and education. While both areas share similar unemployment rates and a similar share of residents with no religion (around 44%), they differ in how they move. North Shore is a walker's paradise with high street connectivity, while Pittwater is very walkable but relies more on cars. This contrast is clear in the home ownership data, as Pittwater has far more homes owned outright (40.9%) compared to North Shore (28.7%).
