Auburn Epping
Auburn and Epping are both large, populous areas in Sydney, but they differ sharply in housing and income. Epping has a much higher share of detached houses (64.8% compared to 36.7% in Auburn) and larger homes, with 74.5% of dwellings having three or more bedrooms. Epping is also wealthier; its typical weekly household income is $2,451, which is well higher than the $1,729 typical in Auburn. Auburn is more diverse, with 70.7% of people using a language other than English at home, compared to 51.7% in Epping, and far more people who speak little or no English (18.7% versus 7.9%).
Both areas are very similar in how they are laid out for daily life, with almost exactly the same number of people per home and about the same number of public transport stops per 1,000 people. While they share these basics, some gaps have grown since 2011. The difference in weekly household income has widened, and the gap in the number of people working from home has increased significantly. This trend is consistent with Epping's higher share of university degrees (50.3%) compared to Auburn (30.8%).
