Melbourne - Inner South and Hume are very different Victorian areas. Melbourne - Inner South is a highly urbanised hub where 42% of adults hold a bachelor degree or higher and 31% were born overseas. It is a walker's paradise, with 99.4% of homes within a 10 minute walk of public transport. In contrast, Hume is more rural and spacious; 91.6% of its homes are separate houses and only 10.6% of residents were born overseas. Hume has a much lower share of university qualifications, with 16.5% of adults holding a bachelor degree or higher.
These two areas share a very similar proportion of children under 15, at around 17%. While they are alike in this way, other gaps are widening. Since 2011, the difference in high-income households has grown, with Melbourne - Inner South seeing far more households earning $3,000 or more a week.
