Esperance Lake Grace
Esperance and Lake Grace are both regional Western Australian areas, but they differ in scale and layout. Esperance is much larger, with far more schools and larger average school sizes. It also has more people living within a 15-minute walk of a park, school, or public transport. In contrast, Lake Grace has a higher share of people who have completed Year 12, a much higher rate of volunteers, and far more people working from home. Lake Grace also sees more people working or looking for work, with 74.2% compared to 59.9% in Esperance.
These two areas have tracked in different directions since 2011 in several key ways. While the gap in volunteering has narrowed, the difference in Year 12 completion and outright home ownership has widened. The rental market has also shifted, with Esperance now having a well higher share of households renting. Despite these trends, the two areas remain very similar in other ways; for example, they have almost identical shares of children under 15 and a similar typical weekly family income of around $2,000.
