Gold Coast Ipswich
Gold Coast and Ipswich are both large Queensland areas, but they offer very different lifestyles. Gold Coast is far more walkable and has more people born overseas, with 29.1% compared to 21.7% in Ipswich. Housing differs sharply; while 88.7% of Ipswich homes are separate houses, only 56.8% are in Gold Coast. Ipswich also has many more large family homes, with 86.7% having three or more bedrooms compared to 71.1% in Gold Coast. Gold Coast is generally more advantaged, with a higher share of adults holding a bachelor degree or higher (21.8% versus 15.5%) and a higher typical age of 39, while Ipswich is younger at 33.
Daily life in both places is remarkably similar in other ways, with almost the same typical weekly household incomes and similar rates of volunteering. However, some gaps are growing. Since 2011, the difference in the share of people aged 65 and over has widened, and the gap in separate house ownership has also increased. While both areas have a much higher share of people born overseas than the national figure, Gold Coast's lead in this area has narrowed slightly over the last decade.
