Moorabool Surf Coast
Surf Coast and Moorabool are two similar-sized Victorian areas, though they differ markedly in education and safety. Surf Coast is far more qualified, with 33.6% of adults holding a bachelor degree or higher compared to 17.9% in Moorabool. This gap in higher education, along with a 15 point gap in Year 12 completion, has widened since 2011. Surf Coast also has a much higher proportion of homes within walking distance of parks and groceries. In contrast, Moorabool has a far higher rate of recorded offences, ranging from theft and burglary to motor vehicle theft.
Everyday life in both areas shares many similarities, such as having an almost identical share of children under 15 and the same typical number of people per home. They also both have a very high proportion of detached houses. However, some gaps are growing; residents in Surf Coast are now noticeably older than those in Moorabool, and a higher share of people in Surf Coast report having no religion. This is consistent with the national figure, as both areas sit well above the Australian average for people with no religion.
