Parkes Warren
Parkes and Warren are two regional New South Wales areas with very different profiles. Parkes is a larger hub with much better access to public transport, where 68.8% of homes are within a 10-minute walk of a stop. In contrast, Warren is more sparsely populated and sees a much higher share of recent overseas arrivals, at 36.2% compared to 14.3% in Parkes. Warren also scores higher in education and job skills, while Parkes has a much higher rate of drug offences and a higher share of people with mental health conditions.
These two areas have tracked in different directions, particularly with the gap in recent overseas arrivals widening significantly since 2011. Despite this, they share very similar typical weekly household incomes, around $1,330, and almost the same percentage of people born overseas. They also both sit far below the national figure for people who do not have a religion, and both have a typical resident age that is older than the Australian average.
