Imangara vs Tara

Imangara and Tara are two remote areas in the Northern Territory with distinct local services. Imangara has a far higher share of people who speak a First Nations language at 95%, compared to 67.7% in Tara. Their local infrastructure differs completely: all homes in Imangara are within a 15-minute walk of a school, while all homes in Tara are within a 15-minute walk of health services.

Both areas are almost identical in that they are car-dependent and have very few walkable amenities. They share similar First Nations household incomes around $900 and have roughly the same proportion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. While Tara has a noticeably older First Nations population, with a typical age of 21 compared to 18 in Imangara, the gap in Year 12 completion for First Nations residents has remained relatively small.
