North-West Kimberley vs Kupungarri

North-West Kimberley and Kupungarri are both remote Western Australian areas with very different profiles for their First Nations residents. In Kupungarri, the typical First Nations person is far younger at 15, while in North-West Kimberley they are 25. Kupungarri has a higher share of people who speak a First Nations language (40.0% compared to 24.7%) and a higher rate of Year 12 completion, at 25.0% versus 14.0%. Typical First Nations personal income is also far higher in Kupungarri at $417, compared to $249 in North-West Kimberley.

These two areas have tracked similarly since 2011, remaining almost entirely car-dependent with no homes within a short walk of public transport, schools or health services. They share a similar typical First Nations household income of $450. While both areas are largely non-residential, Kupungarri has slightly more street connectivity, whereas North-West Kimberley is home to a well larger population of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
