Mirima vs North-West Kimberley

Mirima and North-West Kimberley are two very different parts of Western Australia. Mirima has a larger First Nations population, with 114 people compared to 73 in North-West Kimberley. It is also much more developed, with far more street intersections and far more homes within a 15-minute walk of a park or school. In contrast, North-West Kimberley has a far higher rate of First Nations Year 12 completion, at 14.0% compared to just 3.7% in Mirima. Mirima also has a far higher share of people who speak a First Nations language (57.9% versus 24.7%) and far higher First Nations household incomes ($931 versus $450).

Both areas are essentially car-dependent, with no homes within a 15-minute walk of groceries or health services. This lack of local access is a shared trait across both locations, despite Mirima having a slightly higher walkability score of 1.6. While they differ in education and language, they share a very similar typical First Nations personal income, which sits well below the national figure for both.
