Bayswater vs Swan

Bayswater and Swan are two nearby areas in Western Australia with very different layouts. Bayswater is very walkable, with 85.6% of homes within a 15-minute walk of groceries and 63.1% near health services. In contrast, Swan is somewhat walkable, and far fewer homes are close to shops or health services. This difference is clear in the street design, where Bayswater has 164 intersections per square kilometre, far higher than the 24 found in Swan.

These differences in accessibility are widening, especially as Bayswater has seen its walkability score grow more than Swan's. However, the two areas share some similarities in their First Nations communities. Both have very similar rates of unemployment for First Nations people (around 13.7%) and a nearly identical share of people who speak a First Nations language. Swan is home to a far larger First Nations population, with 5,170 people compared to 1,050 in Bayswater.
