Marion vs Port Lincoln

Marion and Port Lincoln are both South Australian areas with very different layouts. Marion is very walkable, with 80.7% of homes within a 15-minute walk of groceries and 98.9% near public transport. In contrast, Port Lincoln is only somewhat walkable, where only 28.0% of homes are near groceries. Education outcomes for First Nations people are also far higher in Marion, where 46.5% finished Year 12, compared to 31.0% in Port Lincoln.

Both areas have a similar First Nations unemployment rate to the national figure, with Marion at 13.0% and Port Lincoln slightly higher at 16.3%. They also share very similar proportions of people who speak a First Nations language, sitting at 10.8% in Marion and 10.1% in Port Lincoln. While Marion has a much larger First Nations population, the typical personal income for these residents is almost identical in both places.
