Cooktown vs Eacham

Cooktown and Eacham are two different Queensland regions with distinct layouts. Cooktown is mostly car-dependent but more walkable than Eacham, which is described as car-dependent. In Cooktown, 65.3% of homes are within a 15-minute walk of health services, compared to just 11.0% in Eacham. The two areas also differ in their First Nations populations; 35.8% of people in Cooktown speak a First Nations language, which is far higher than the 12.9% in Eacham. This is alongside a much higher First Nations unemployment rate in Cooktown at 22.8%, while Eacham is much lower at 8.6%.

They also share similar terrain and a similar proportion of homes within walking distance of a school, at around 31%. While Eacham has a higher share of First Nations residents finishing Year 12 at 42.2%, the typical age and income for First Nations people remain quite similar across both places.
