Newcastle vs Wyong

Newcastle and Wyong are both regional New South Wales areas, but they offer very different levels of accessibility. Newcastle is very walkable, with 81.2% of homes within 15 minutes of groceries and 76% near health services. In contrast, Wyong is only somewhat walkable, with just 48.4% of homes near groceries and 32.7% near health services. Newcastle also has a higher rate of First Nations residents finishing Year 12 at 43.6%, compared to 34.5% in Wyong.

Both areas share very similar income levels for First Nations households, which sit at $1,754 in Newcastle and $1,633 in Wyong. While they are similar in this way, the gap in walkability remains large, with Newcastle having far more street intersections per square kilometre. Wyong has a larger First Nations population overall, and the typical First Nations resident there is slightly younger than in Newcastle.
