Adelaide Kingston
Adelaide and Kingston are two distinct South Australian areas with very different housing and social profiles. Adelaide is a highly diverse, urban hub where 36.8% of people were born overseas and 35.8% use a language other than English at home. It is a walker's paradise with a score of 8.2, and a high proportion of residents rent their homes (41.4%). In contrast, Kingston is dominated by separate houses (89.3%) and larger family homes, with 87.3% having three or more bedrooms. Kingston is less diverse, with only 8.5% using another language at home, but it has a much higher share of people with no religion at 55.2%.
Since 2011, the two areas have grown further apart in several ways. The gap in overseas births and language use has widened, and residents in Kingston have become noticeably older than those in Adelaide. Despite these shifting trends, they remain similar in other ways, such as having roughly the same number of public transport stops and very similar typical weekly rents, with Adelaide at $345 and Kingston at $320.
