How people contribute — volunteering, unpaid care and domestic work, and defence service.
A huge shift in unpaid work has defined Balgo (L) since 2011, with more than half the population now caring for children. While formal volunteering has dropped, the community is heavily focused on home and family support. This local commitment to care is far higher than in most other areas.
Volunteering for organisations and groups.
Volunteering has fallen sharply since 2011, dropping 28 points to 13.1%. This is much lower than most similar areas and sits a little below the Western Australian figure of 15.9%.
