How people contribute — volunteering, unpaid care and domestic work, and defence service.
More than a quarter of people in Brisbane provide unpaid childcare, a figure that is much higher than most other areas. While child care is common, other forms of community work and volunteering have generally declined over the last decade.

Unpaid childcare is a key activity here, with 28.0% of people providing this care, which is a little above the national figure. In contrast, those doing 15 or more hours of housework have fallen to 20.1%, and unpaid care for others is much lower than most areas at 11.4%.
